Federico Bonelli

who am I? I am not so sure. I feel I am a Philosopher, but what does it means in our time to be one? I try to find out digging.

The spirit of times of our age is rich and poor at the same time. Is rich in words, news, bits shouts and mere numbers of connessions between concepts. Is poor of poetry, vision and empathy. I question myself with some abstract form of art, in the sense of the humanist ideal of “homo universalis”. I try to keep the process with one foot on the ground, but I am far from the certainty that this is necessary.

As an aRTist and an independent researcher i try myself in a field called “media art”, that is not so new, but were I have developed some skills, and I try to see things with eyes, tell them with words and think them with concepts that are my own. I am a learner that enjoy doing so.

Art is something I have to confront myself on a personal evolution path. I breath.

I was born in Rome in 1969.
Computer hobbyist in the ‘80es, in the beginning I was a “smanettone” (italian slang for lesser form of hacker). I have pretty much remained one…
In the 90′ I study Philosophy and History of Science in University of Rome Tor Vergata.
I Graduated with a thesis on deterministic chaos in witch I link Boltzman and Prigogine with Stoics views on science and knowledge.
After I have worked on the ancient theory of the tidal motion of the sea, XIII-XVIII century science, stoic forms of logic and on Luca Pacioli’s Divina Proportione.

During a period of research within the department of Mathematics, founded with a small bourse of studies, I have been working with prof. Lucio Russo as a mentor. He has been one of my most influential and respected master. I decided to practice philosophy as an independent researcher when I realized that multi-disciplinary approaches in academy are tolerated only if done by specialists of multi-disciplinary studies.

I moved to Amsterdam in 2002 to pursuit personal evolution and survival as independent worker. I like it very much here. For my job activity you can check SUb multimedia re_search lab were more details.

My latest projects:

  • Radio Oltranzista: a cross media platform for FM radio with a program behind… Radio Oltranzista has been accepted for founding by Amsterdam Fonds for de Kunst in 2007 and was live in 5 Days off festival 2007 and Weerwoord festival 2008 from Amsterdam de Balie.

In the pipeline I have a documentary project on the futurists and many ideas that have to become shows, unconventional performative objects and cinematic dreams.
